Jacques Offenbach (born Jacob Offenbach; 20 June 1819 -- 5 October 1880) was a German-born French composer and cellist of the Romantic era and one of the originators of the operetta form. Of German-Jewish ancestry, he was one of the most influential composers of popular music in Europe in the 19th century, and many of his works remain in the repertory.
Barcarolle is the most famous part of the opera "The Tales of Hoffmann"
Barcarolle (Belle nuit, ô nuit d'amour), is performed in Act 2. Curiously, the aria was not written by Offenbach with Les contes d'Hoffmann in mind. He wrote it as the 'Elves' Song' in the opera Die Rheinnixen (Les fées du Rhin), which premiered in Vienna on February 8, 1864. Offenbach died with Les contes d'Hoffmann unfinished. Ernest Guiraud completed the scoring and wrote the recitatives for the premiere. He also incorporated this excerpt from one of Offenbach's earlier, long-forgotten operas into the new opera. The Barcarolle has inspired the English composer Kaikhosru Shapurji Sorabji his Passeggiata veneziana sopra la Barcarola di Offenbach (1955--56). Moritz Moszkowski also wrote a virtuoso transcription of it. The Barcarolle has been incorporated into many films, including Life Is Beautiful and Titanic. It also provided the tune for Elvis Presley's rendition of the song "Tonight Is So Right For Love" in the film G.I. Blues (1960).
Brano stupendo che dà proprio l'idea del navigare dolcemente su una barca, alla sera, sotto la luna... dolce melodia che crea un'immagine, una sensazione romantica dove i due innamorati si perdono... in una sera d'estate...
Oggi canteremo con il coro questo brano e la maestra vuole che attraverso il canto venga ricreata questa immagine romantica.

Il concerto si è svolto in un palazzo storico della città. Abbiamo eseguito "Le Poeme des Fleurs" di Massenet e la Barcarolle di Offenbach che è tratta dai racconti di Hoffman. Tutti i brani che avevano affinità con l' "acqua" e la "Luce" come elementi vitali di ispirazione e di vita.
I brani sono stati intervallati da due attrici che, in vesti ottocentesche, interpretavano il ruolo di due signore francesi che si trovavano a passare "le acque" delle Terme di S.Giuliano e ne decantavano le proprietà terapeutiche. La cosa si è svolta in maniera molto gradevole e suggestiiva...
C'è stato anche un bis e indovinate di che cosa? Proprio della Barcarola!
